After a tough opening loss to Kadji Sports Academy, King Africa bounced back with grit, clinching a hard-earned 63-59 win against Abeilles of the Central African Republic. The game was a fierce battle from start to finish, with King Africa seizing the lead early on, only to face a relentless 16-point comeback from Abeilles.
Landry Ndomo and Vincent Siekou led King Africa’s offence, posting 15 and 14 points, respectively, showcasing their poise under pressure. However, Abeilles wasn’t ready to back down. Former NBA Academy Africa student, Kurt-Curry Wegschieder and Billy Kamayengue sparked an impressive resurgence, scoring 20 and 17 points each to erase a 16-point deficit and even take a narrow lead late in the game.
In the final minutes, King Africa held their nerve, with defensive stops and clutch shots securing their four-point victory. This win not only puts King Africa back on track in the tournament but also underscores their resilience and tenacity in high-pressure moments.
This was a very disappointing night for Abeilles, who hoped to advance to the next stage of the qualifiers. However, as a result of this win, there now seems to be a fresh level of hope and optimism the Equatorial Guinean Basketball Federation's programme, which has been going through several changes in the last few months, can take the next step forward.
