FIBA Releases Dates and Locations for Upcoming 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers

In the aftermath of the highly-anticipated 2025 AfroBasket draw [See Draw Below] held in November, FIBA has unveiled the eagerly awaited details for the inaugural phase of qualifiers.

Egypt and Tunisia have emerged as the chosen hosts for the opening window of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers, a significant nod to the vibrant basketball culture flourishing in North Africa. The scheduled dates for this riveting basketball spectacle are set for February 23rd to 25th, marking a pivotal moment in the roadmap to AfroBasket glory.

Tunisia is set to be the host for Groups B and E, while Egypt will kick off the action by hosting the inaugural games of Group D. Meanwhile, the qualifying campaign for Teams in Groups A and C, aiming for a spot in the 16-nation AfroBasket, will commence in November.

Groups B & E:
• Date: February 23 – 25, 2024
• Location: Nabeul, Tunisia

Group D:
• Date: February 23 – 25, 2024
• Location: Cairo International Stadium, Egypt

The nations en route to Tunisia for the 2025 AfroBasket qualifiers include Cape Verde, Nigeria, Uganda, and the winner of the Africa Zone 1 qualifiers, featuring Algeria, Libya, and Morocco. The schedule for the Zone 1 qualifiers will be officially confirmed soon, as announced by the FIBA Africa office. Meanwhile, Group E hosts Tunisia will be joined by Angola, Guinea, and Kenya in their quest for AfroBasket glory.

Ahead of the 2025 AfroBasket qualifiers, several nations are set to engage in Pre-Qualifiers across the continent, vying for the remaining four coveted spots.

Meanwhile, Mauritius and Comoros are geared up for a challenging face-off against teams from Africa Zone 6, as they seek entry into Group A. Teams from Africa Zones 3 and 4 will compete to fill the last spots in Group C, bringing added excitement to the AfroBasket 2025 journey.

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE:

AfricaBasket.net have been informed that nations from Zone 5 and Djibouti have withdrawn from the pre-qualifiers. Consequently, Madagascar secures a spot in Group D by default.

In another exclusive update, Equatorial Guinea will face Gabon in a crucial matchup for the final spot in Group C. The two-legged games, set to determine the qualifier for Group C, will take place on January 28th and 29th, 2024.

Please note that the Qualifiers for the last 2 Pre-Qualifiers will take place between 18th and 26th November 2024.

FIBA AfroBasket 2025 Pre-Qualifiers: Four (4) groups are planned in order to have the last qualifiers for the AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.

Zone 1 and 2: Libya and Morocco pre-qualifier dates to be confirmed. The winner will join the Group B qualifiers.

Zone 5 - UPDATE: Djibouti and the Zone 5 nations have pulled out of the pre-qualifiers therefore giving Madagascar the last Group D spot.

Zone 6: To be confirmed.

Zone 3 and 4 - UPDATE: Equatorial Guinea vs Gabon. The games will be played over two legs, to determine who will qualify for the Group C qualifiers, on 28th and the 29th of January 2024.
