There has been some activity going on in the Zone 2 for the past week with Hamidou Diallo joining the Washington Wizards squad, while Stade Malien have decided to level up in terms of coaching staff. Below is what happened lately.
The Blancs de Bamako, nicknamed Stade Malien, won the53rd Malian Cup last December, beating Réal de Bamako 65/78 to claim their 24thtitle, and have now reorganised their staff.
Boubacar Kanoute, previously assistant coach, has becomehead coach and Kaba Kanté, who led the team to the final of Season 3 of theBAL, is the new technical director.
The final of the 5th edition of the Nah Koné Cup was won successively by Yelen Coura in the men's competition at the expense of ASON(48-42) and the Centre Lamine Daby Camara against ASON (19-14) in the women's competition.
Senegal women's Afrobasket finalist Mathilde Aïcha Diop is heading back to Europe, specifically Germany to play for TG Neuss, after a season with Jeanne d'Arc in Dakar. She arrived last week and played her first game this weekend against BBC Osnabrück. She made a good impression, scoring 10 points on her debut.
"She did a pretty good job, even if there was sometimes a lack of automatisms with the others. She's going to get used to the systems and she'll be able to give us a lot more, especially in home games," said her coach Björn Weber.
At 43, Maleye Ndoye is still going strong. The Senegalese continues to impress in the Swiss Basketball League, and was at it again this weekend with BBC Nyon.
The Vaud-based club travelled to face Lugano. And despite the defeat (92-83), his performance was above average, with 25 points, 5rebounds and 5 assists.
In 15 games this season, Maleye Ndoye has averaged 10.0points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 28.3 minutes. A secret of longevity that he may have to pass on to the youngsters who want to follow in his footsteps.
Bengali Kaba, the French-Senegalese basketball player, who claimed two French titles (1984-1985 and 1985-1986) and winner of the European Cup (Korac (1983-1984), is back on the bench in Senegal with Port Basket Club, a National 1 team that has managed to hold its own.
As a technician, Kaba had been a player-coach at Orléans Basket.
Hamidou Diallo joins the Wizards squad. He will take overfrom Ryan Rollins.
