Day two of the FIBA 2023 Intercontinental Cup saw Sesi Franca end Al Ahly's hopes of reaching the final with a comfortable 90-70 victory. The Egyptians are still in contention for a place on the podium, however their journey will have to go via the classification rounds, scheduled for Sunday September 24.
The Al Ahly players said they had arrived in Singapore with the dream of playing in the final, but after their 90-70 defeat on Friday, it's clear they can no longer finish top of the group.
The winners of the #BasketballChampionsLeagueAmericas are feeling good about themselves after a dominant performance against #BAL champions Al Ahly. Al Ahly got 17 points from Norris Cole, but legs were tired after a late game on Thursday and an early start on Friday. They'll have to wait until the end of the Franca - Ignite match to find out whether they'll be playing for third or fifth place on Sunday. Ehab Amin tried hard for his part, but with his 10 and 9 rebounds, it wasn't enough.
"Everyone holds everyone else responsible. We know what we're capable of, every player wants to do his best, we know we need everyone to be competitive in this tournament. The fans who came out know that we love and appreciate them. They always support us and give us energy on the pitch," added Jackson on the subject of Franca's depth and the support of the fans in Singapore.
