Sporting vs CNSS

Sporting Club Under Enormous Preasure As Hosts, Tramples On Invitees CNSS

The zone 4 invitees CNSS of Congo suffered heavy casualties before losing to their host Sporting Club as we wrap up game day 1. It was impossible not to envisage a victory from host team Sporting Club following their recruitment. A taste of Senegalese 2023 Women’s Afrobasket silver medallists Fatou Babou Diagne, Yacine Diop , All-Star point guard Cierra Dillard and Mexican shooting guard Destiny Pitts seemed to be just what they needed to put out the lights in Alexandria.

PERFORMANCES

Losing all quarters in the in the game, scoring less than 50 points, explains the dominance of Sporting club against CNSS making it the game with the biggest lead in day 1. Scoring machine Destiny Pitts for Sporting Club puts  an outstanding performance marking 20 points and 3 rebounds making 70% of her shots 7/10 on FG.

Destiny Pitts

She was buttressed in double digits by Hagar Amer 13 points, 8 rebounds and Norah Ahmed 11 points and 3 rebounds. Already sure about their victory in the game it was more about the chemistry.

Hagar Amer
We were working on the team chemistry. We didn’t play any game together with the new three. Destiny Pitts is a professional she played with us all season but the three Senegalese players we have never played with them so we tried to build up the chemistry in thisgame.

The Senegalese center Fatou Babou Diagne led the rebounding with a total of 9 rebounds scoring 9 points.

It was a low scoring game for the Congolese team as Gracia Nguz could only score 8 points and 6 rebounds to accumulate a total of 41 points with her teammates.

COACHES IMPRESSIONS

Sporting’s coach Mohamed Abderhaman, made mention of the pressure as host, being enormous made them miss easy shots, also allowing CNSS of Congo to score easy shots without a good defense. They stepped up their game afterwards, took the lead and started to play as they loved to.

Head coach Ade Koko based their defeat on turnovers and lack of concentration yet he keeps his head focused on tomorrow’s game against Kenya Port Authority.

They are young, we are going to ask them once again to have fun and now we are going to be tough. They would have to be confident themselves, as we saw at the beginning there were confident and afterwards, a lack of total concentration. All this we are going to talk with the athletes it is more of mental work that we are going to do tomorrow.

As we unravel game day 2 in the AFRICAN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LEAGUE, we are going to withness a high level of women's basketball in Africa right here in the city of Alexandria.
