UNIVERSITY OF DOUALA VS CUSTOMS at the African Women’s Basketball League 2023

The African Women’s Basketball League open’s its curtains with the Nigerian Customs showing their superiority over the University of Douala. The University of Douala just went a step behind their objectives of making it to the next phase of the competition losing to the customs 46-57.

OVERVIEW

In a fierce low scoring game the University of Douala found it difficult to reward themselves with some easy baskets.

The Nigerian Customs led the first two periods 11-12 for the first and 8-20 for the second. They lost the third period to two points 18-16 and conceded a draw in the fourth period which marked the lowest scoring period.

The University of Douala Showed their weaknesses in terms of height and inexperience which made it easy for the Nigerian customs to get hold a total of 25 offensive rebounds with second chance points and 21 turnovers making it difficult to grab a win.

PERFORMANCES

Custom’s Nkem Akaraiwe came out with a gross performance scoring 20 points, 19 rebounds, 4 assists, 4steals and 3 blocks to clinch the game for the customs.

It was too alarming not to fight back as the rookie Giolobo Myriam responded with 17points and 2 rebounds. Despite the effort it wasn’t enough to stop them from bleeding from the sharp blades of the Nigerian customs.

The University of Douala ceded to a hurtfull defeat 46-57 yet head coach Ngoug Manang is not disapointed by the perfomance of his team considering the fact that it is the first time that his players are participating in a continental high level tournament. Nevertheless he urges them to play their game and be more confident for the next game, still having their eyes on the quarter-finals as they will face host Sporting Club.
