In a proactive step towards fostering young talent and ensuring strong representation in the upcoming U18 AfroBasket tournament, the Cameroon Basketball Federation will host an Open Door Day in France. This initiative aims to identify and document talented basketball players aged between 15 and 18, highlighting the federation's commitment to nurturing the next generation of basketball stars.

The Open Door Day, to be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 20th July 2024, is predicted to attract numerous young athletes, of Cameroonian decent, based in France and across Europe, aspiring to make their mark on the international stage. The event will take place at the Gymnase de La Concorde, 27 Rue De La Concorde, 92600 Asnières-sur-Seine, France, providing an accessible location for Cameroonian talents residing in France and neighbouring countries.

Objectives:

  • To scout and register promising young basketball players with the potential to represent Cameroon in the U18 AfroBasket tournament.
  • To create an updated and comprehensive database of eligible players, ensuring a streamlined selection process for future national team considerations.
  • To foster a sense of community among the Cameroonian diaspora, strengthening the connection between young athletes and their home country's basketball federation.

The day will be filled with activities designed to assess and enhance participants' skills:

  • Players will undergo a series of drills focusing on dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive techniques. Coach Ahmen Mbombo Njoya and the Cameroon Basketball Federation technical staff will supervise these drills.
  • Scrimmage games will be organised to evaluate the players' game sense and teamwork. These matches will provide a practical context for scouts to observe players' performance under competitive conditions.
  • The event will conclude with the successful registration of numerous talented players, who will now be closely monitored for further evaluations as the U18 AfroBasket approaches.
Cedric Ottou Tchougwé, Senior Executive

Discussing the finer points of the upcoming event, Senior Executive Cedric Ottou Tchougwé stated the following:

"I would just like to provide some clarifications, players from 15 to 18 years old are expected, the goal is to create a file or directory of players with a Cameroonian passport and binationals."

With the U18 AfroBasket on the horizon, the Cameroon Basketball Federation is dedicated to building a robust and competitive youth program. The success of the Open Door Day in France marks a significant step in this ongoing journey, ensuring a bright and promising future for Cameroonian basketball.

In conclusion, the Open Door Day organised by the Cameroon Basketball Federation will provide a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities and reinforce the federation's strategic approach to talent development and community engagement.

As preparations for the U18 AfroBasket intensify, the Cameroon Basketball Federation's commitment to nurturing young athletes will yield positive outcomes for the sport in Cameroon.
