Mali

Sika Koné Receives Euroleague Rookie of the Year Nomination

Mali's rising basketball sensation, Sika Koné, has earned a prestigious nomination for the title of best rookie in the Women's Euroleague. Competing against eight other talented players, Koné's stellar performance with Perfumerias Avenida has garnered attention and recognition.

Koné showcased her exceptional skills throughout the season, averaging an impressive 12.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Her efficiency on the court was undeniable, boasting a remarkable 54.9% field goal shooting percentage during her average playing time of 20.6 minutes per game. This nomination further solidifies Koné's status as a promising talent both in European and African basketball.

Ligue 1 Orange Men's National Championship

AS Police secured a hard-fought 70-60 victory over Real de Bamako. Boubacar Diarra showcased an outstanding performance, leading AS Police to success with an impressive 22-point contribution.

Meanwhile, in the women's championship, AS Real de Bamako emerged victorious against AS Police, scoring 77-71. Oumou Koumaré stood out on the court, delivering an exceptional performance and finishing with an impressive 29 points.

Mali is hosting the U18 International Friendship Basketball Tournament for girls and boys, running until April 1, 2024. Alongside Mali, teams from Guinea (girls and boys), Senegal (boys), and Tunisia (girls and boys) are participating. Unfortunately, Cote d'Ivoire has withdrawn from the competition.

On the opening day, Mali secured a commanding 97-64 victory over Guinea. Sekou Bagayogo delivered a stellar performance, recording a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. In their subsequent match, Mali's Aiglons displayed dominance against Tunisia, claiming a 79-69 victory. Mamadou Traoré emerged as a standout player, contributing 31 points and two rebounds to the team's success.

Similarly, Mali's girls' team started their campaign strongly with a convincing 72-54 win over Tunisia. Mablé Doumbia led the Eagles with 18 points and one rebound, showcasing the team's formidable talent.

The 13th African Games

Mali clinched the gold medal in 3x3 basketball at The 13th African Games held in Accra, Ghana, by defeating their long-standing rivals Nigeria 22-11 in a thrilling final match. This victory secured the prestigious title and earned Mali a coveted spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
