FAP got off to a firing start against the women from Lubumbashi, Congo, but they [ASB Makomeno] eventually found their footing and fired back. It was a game with very little room for error as the score remained tight. It was 16-11 to FAP at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was similar to the first quarter but again, the Cameroonian side managed to extend their lead by a small margin. What worked wee for them was their tenacity on the offensive board.

They would end the game with 23 offensive boards compared to Makomeno’s 9. However, Makomeno managed to climb back after being down 10 points. They also turned their defense up a notch closer to the end of the half. They closed off the half at 30-24 in favor of FAP, but momentum was now with Makomeno.

With the wind in their sails, Makomeno turned up their defensive and began to cut down the lead and impose themselves in the game. Aichata Traoré recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for Makomeno in this valiant effort. They ended the second quarter with the score at 46-44 in favor of FAP but the ladies from Lubumbashi began to believe that they could get to the finish line.

However, FAP were able to go to another gear and seize control of the game on both ends. This is something Makomeno seemed unable to do. They looked exhausted in the fourth quarter. The ladies from Cameroon went on to score 19 points in the fourth quarter and concede only 6. This helped them run away with the game and march to a 65-50 victory. Breanna Campbell had 15 points and 9 assists while her teammate Iona McKenzie had 8 points and a whopping 16 rebounds. As a result, FAP are now ranked eleventh on the continent and bid farewell to the shores of Dakar.

Breanna Campbell

Breanna Campbell had the following to say:

It’s been a challenge; it’s been very physical. It’s my first year but it’s not something I can’t get adjusted to. It’s been fun at the same time. I want to be more efficient and take care of the ball more… continue to learn how to win
