FAP (Forces Armées et Police) may have been eliminated from the 2024 Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA), but they ended their campaign on a positive note with a convincing 65-50 victory over ABS Makomeno in the classification game. The Cameroonian team demonstrated resilience and determination, dominating large portions of the game and showcasing their potential for future competitions.
From the start, FAP established their dominance, particularly in the first half, where they outplayed ABS Makomeno on both ends of the court. With Breanna Campbell leading the charge, FAP built a commanding lead that left their opponents scrambling to keep up. Campbell’s 15-point performance was a testament to her ability to drive the team forward, making crucial plays when needed.
Makomeno, however, showed no signs of backing down. Despite struggling with the scoreboard, they fought hard to reduce the deficit, bringing the game within two points at one stage. Their persistence and determination added intensity to the matchup, as they aimed to turn the tide in their favor. Unfortunately, they could not maintain the momentum required to complete the comeback.
FAP’s depth was key to securing the win, with multiple players stepping up to contribute. Amayaba William, Adebola Adeyeye, Mckenzie Ionna, and Amandine Ebogo all chipped in with crucial single-digit scoring performances. While their individual point tallies may not have been staggering, their collective efforts provided the team with the balance and support needed to stay ahead.
Defensively, FAP was solid, stifling Makomeno’s offensive attempts and forcing turnovers that translated into scoring opportunities. Their ability to control the game tempo and disrupt their opponent’s rhythm was critical in maintaining their lead and ultimately sealing the victory.
Although FAP’s journey in the 2024 WBLA ended earlier than hoped, this win serves as a reminder of their capabilities and potential. The team has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the tournament and has the foundation to build a more consistent and competitive squad in the future. For the players and coaching staff, the focus will now shift to learning from this experience and preparing for upcoming challenges.
As for ABS Makomeno, their efforts in the game reflected their hunger for success, even if the result did not go their way. Their determination and fight signal promise for future competitions, where they will aim to refine their strategy and execution.
