Kadji Sports Academy (KSA) tipped off their Road to BAL campaign with a strong win, overcoming Gabon’s Moanda Basket Club 69-54. In a highly anticipated and intense fixture, KSA displayed solid teamwork and resilience, securing a much-needed first victory in their quest for a spot in the prestigious Basketball Africa League.
From the onset, the game was a showcase of athleticism and grit, with both teams exhibiting a high level of physicality on both ends of the court. KSA’s defense was a key factor, as they applied constant pressure that slowed Moanda Basket Club’s offensive rhythm. This pressure forced Moanda’s offense into tough shots and turnovers, allowing KSA to maintain a comfortable lead for much of the game.
Cameroon international Simon Bileg was a standout for KSA, recording 12 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. His relentless energy on the boards provided crucial second-chance points and helped control the pace, ultimately allowing KSA to dictate the tempo. Bileg’s efforts were essential to KSA’s balanced attack, proving that a collective drive could overcome any individual performance.
Moanda Basket Club, also known as the Moanda Gorillas, relied heavily on the scoring prowess of Herman Boukosso, who contributed a game-high 22 points. Despite Boukosso’s standout performance, Moanda struggled to find additional offensive support, with KSA’s defense limiting the rest of Moanda’s lineup to single-digit scoring.
Kadji Sports Academy’s depth and teamwork ultimately made the difference, with contributions from multiple players across the board. Their ability to out-rebound and outlast Moanda Basket Club in this physical game speaks volumes about their preparation and desire to advance in the tournament.
We have great ambitions for this tournament and I think our performance of today wasn't what we expected." KSA's star Kenneth Kadji highlighted.
This win marks an important step forward for Kadji Sports Academy in the Road to BAL qualifiers, giving them the momentum they need as they continue their journey.
