The second half of the day began following a vibrant opening ceremony that showcased cultural South African dances. Both teams were eager to hit the court and start their games in the new Basketball Africa League season.

In a packed stadium filled with fervent supporters of the local club Cape Town Tigers, the crowd grew anxious as the Burundian-based outfit, Dynamo BBC took an early 8-0 lead. Despite the South African club's efforts to close the gap, they still trailed by six points at the end of the first quarter (15-21).

The crowd's "Let's Go Tigers" chants failed to inspire the squad led by coach Mlungisi Ngwenya. By halftime, they were behind by 15 points (29-44). This game lacked the excitement and top-level basketball seen earlier during the FUS Rabat vs Petro Athletico de Luanda clash [Read Game Report].

Regardless, the Burundian club appeared to be securing a significant victory, maintaining a 14-point lead in the third quarter.

In the final quarter, there was a noticeable shift in momentum. Encouraged by their fans, Cape Town narrowed the gap to six points. However, David Deng swiftly responded with consecutive baskets, reasserting Dynamo's dominance. Despite Cape Town's efforts, Dynamo maintained their lead, ultimately securing a 62-74 victory.

The game took an unexpected turn, igniting the crowd with excitement. Despite the impending loss for their team, the fans remained spirited, chanting and lighting up the arena with their mobile phones. Dynamo ultimately emerged victorious with an 86-73 win, concluding an eventful first day of competition. It's worth noting that both losing teams scored 73 points each.
