FIBA Unveils Road To Glory At U18 Afrobasket

The FIBA U18 AfroBasket will tip-off on September 2 in Pretoria, South Africa with 12 teams to rival for continental supremacy in the men’s and women’s categories. With the various groups in the competition already known, the tournament's path from the group stages to the final has been unveiled as 12 teams tussle for the basketball jamboree’s top prize with the finalists to represent the continent at next year's FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Switzerland.

  

Group Phase

The twelve (12) teams will be divided into three groups (A, B and C) of four teams each. Each team will play all the other teams in its own group. A total of eighteen games shall be played in the Group Phase. The teams placed first and second in each group and the two best third-placed teams in the Group Phase will qualify for the Final Phase. The remaining four teams shall play the classification from 9th to 12th place.  

Final Phase

The classification of teams from 1stto 12th place shall be established according to the FIBA Official Basketball Rules.

Quarter-Finals Round 

a.      Classification 9 – 12 place

Game19:           Team placed 9th –Team placed 12th

Game20:           Team placed 10th– Team placed 11th

The two (2) winners will play the classification games (places 9-10).

The two (2) losers will play the classification games (place 11-12).

 

b.      Quarter-Finals

The Quarterfinalsshall be played as follows:

Game21:           Team placed 1st -Team placed 8th

Game22:           Team placed 2nd –Team placed 7th

Game23:           Team placed 3rd –Team placed 6th

Game24:           Team placed 4th –Team placed 5th

 

The four (4) winners will qualify for the Semi-Finals (places 1-4).

The four (4) losers will play the classification games (places 5-8).

 

Semi-Finals Round 

a.      Classification 5 – 12 place

Game25:           Loser 19 – Loser 20                      (11-12)

Game26:           Winner 19 – Winner 20 (9-10)

 

Game27:           Loser 21 – Loser 24                       (5-8)

Game28 :          Loser 22 – Loser 23                       (5-8)

 

b.      Semi-Finals

Game 29:           Winner 21 – Winner 24               (1-4)

Game 30:           Winner 22 – Winner 23  (1-4)

 

Finals Round

a.       Classification 5 – 8 Place

Game 31:                  Loser 27 –Loser 28                      (7-8 place)

Game 32:                  Winner 27 –Winner 28 (5-6 place)

 

b.       Third-place Game & Final

Game 33:                  Loser 29 –Loser 30                      (3-4 place)

Game 34:                  Winner 29 –Winner 30 (1-2 place, Final)
