In a now shocking turn of events, BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall has announced that Burundi's Dynamo Basketball Club have been removed from further participation in this season's Basketball Africa League.
According to the press release that the league released, this decision was due to the fact that Dynamo had once again rejected BAL's request comply with BAL's rules regarding covering the league's main shirt sponsor Visit Rwanda for their game against Petro de Luanda.
"Dynamo Basketball Club (Burundi) has further refused to comply with the Basketball Africa League's rules and requirements governing jerseys and uniforms, thereby forfeiting today's game against Petro de Luanda (Angola) and its participation in the 2024 BAL season."
With two forfeits, including Sunday's and today's, the club has triggered an automatic withdrawal per league rules.
FIBA rules, two forfeitures in the same tournament trigger the club's automatic withdrawal. This is a very unfortunate situation for the players and fans, and we share the frustrations of everyone involved. All remaining Kalahari Conference games will be played as scheduled, and we look forward to engaging fans in Pretoria through expanded fan and community events."
On the opening day of the 2024 season on Saturday, March 9th, Dynamo shocked the basketball world by defeating the hometown heroes, the Cape Town Tigers, with a score of 86-73.
