D’Tigress Star Murjanatu Musa Posts 13 Points, Nine Rebounds as Landes Fall 68-62 to ASVEL

Murjanatu Musa, one of Africa’s brightest stars, couldn’t stop Basket Landes from losing 68-62 to La Boulangère Wonderligue rival ASVEL. The veteran center/power forward finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

Aleksa Gulbe was the only other Landes player to match Musa’s scoring, contributing 14 points off the bench.

Landes struggled early, scoring only eight points in the first quarter. After Musa won the opening tip and Landes took a 4-2 lead, the team went nearly three minutes without a field goal (6-7).

After Landes scored their sixth point, ASVEL responded with a 10-0 run (6-17), holding Landes scoreless for nearly five minutes. ASVEL’s Leck-Olivia Yale then closed the quarter with a layup, extending the lead to 19-6.

Musa grabbed four rebounds and one assist in the first quarter, but also committed two turnovers. Neither of her two offensive rebounds resulted in second-chance points.

Landes improved offensively in the second quarter, with Musa adding four points during a 15-point period. However, they conceded 20 points defensively and trailed 39-23 at halftime.

Musa opened the second period with a high-IQ assist to Daramy, who hit a three-pointer to reduce the deficit to 11-19. The former Zenith Women Basketball League MVP then scored consecutive baskets to make it 17-21. Her final notable play of the quarter was an offensive rebound before being substituted.

The former 3×3 Nigeria national team player added two points and one assist in the third quarter, then tallied seven points and four rebounds in the fourth. Landes held ASVEL to 11 points in the final period, but the first-half deficit was too big to close, resulting in a 62-68 loss to their rivals.

The defeat dropped the Euroleague club to second place in the La Boulangère Wonderligue, behind Lattes Montpellier.

Musa’s box score improved her domestic league averages to 9.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. In Euroleague Women action, the Olympian is averaging 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds.
