Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Women Basketball Club against Inter Clube of Angola. It was the second day's duel in Group B and a promising one given the two teams' outings on the first day.
Led by its American stars, REG can no longer hide its ambitions in the competition after dominating Inter Clube 96-89 on Tuesday, December 12. In this eagerly awaited clash, the Rwandan and Angolan teams played to a 27-27 draw in the first half, demonstrating the intensity between the two teams.
But in the second act, it was REG who took the lead 33-19, with Tiffany Mitchell piling on the baskets to finish as the game's top scorer with 34 points. Inter Clube fought back in the second period (14-20) and (22-23). In addition to Tiffany Mitchell's 34 points, Destiney Promise scored 22, Nia Clouden 16 and Betty Kalanga 15. Four players scored more than 10 points to seal REG's 96-89 victory.
On the other side, Cristina Matiquite held her own with a double-double (22 points and 16 rebounds), Ingvild Mucauro added 23 points and Italee Lucas 22, but it wasn't enough for the Angolans.
"We played against a good team that fought until the end and this win gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the competition. If we continue to have fun on the court, play freely and all together, we'll go far," Nia Clouden told AfricaBasket after the game.
