The battle of fear between Cameroon's Overdose Up Station and ASPAC of Benin ended in favour of the Cameroonians (77-52) in a game neither team wanted to lose after losing their opening games.
In this match on the third day of Group B of the African Women's Basketball League, played on Wednesday, December 13, the Cameroonians got off to a good start, winning the first act (22-14) against an opposition where the Beninese seemed to be reeling from their first game played the day before.
However, ASPAC came back well in the second and only conceded one point (18-17). The break came, but Overdose Up had the upper hand in the match. And the return to the locker room confirmed the trend, as Overdose Up extended its lead at the end of the third quarter (18-13).
The final period confirmed the overall trend of the game, with an eleven-point lead, the largest of any period. Above all, this period confirmed that ASPAC collapsed in the final period, just as they did in their first outing in the competition, scoring only 8 points to their opponents' 19. That's it, Overdose Up gets their first win of the tournament, 77-52, while ASPAC loses two in a row. With their next two games against the group's two ogres, Inter Clube on Thursday, December 14, and REG on Friday, December 15, the Beninese women's apprenticeship at the highest continental level could prove difficult.
"It's a real relief. We have the youngest team and wanted to get up to speed. This victory is for all the Cameroonian fans who will forgive us for losing the first game," Sandrine Ayangma told AfricaBasket after the game.
She scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished four assists off the bench.
Raissa Mogoun agreed with her teammate: "It's a moment of joy for us to have our first AWBL win because we came with a positive attitude from our coaches and ourselves".
As for Marvellous Chizi Abel, she blames fatigue for the defeat, but above all, the girls didn't pay enough attention to the coach's instructions. Aissatou Kondoh Sobabe's analysis of the match is similar to that of her teammate. "The goal is to fight to the end and be proud of ourselves no matter what happens," she tells AfricaBasket, looking ahead to the rest of the tournament. Aissatou Kondoh Sobabe scored more than ten points in this game (18 in total), just like in her first game.
