Five times in a row Women's undisputed champions of Cameroon clinched their ticket to the inaugural re-branded Women's African Basketball League after failing to partake in the tournament formally known as the Women's African Champions Cup Maputo, in 2022. Following a cesarean qualification phase, winning University of Douala in a 22-point game 80-58 then loses against CNSS of the Democratic Republic of Congo by 8 points 79 -71, the ladies of Overdose fought their way through, leading the zone 4 qualifiers with a +14 goal difference despite losing against CNSS during the tournament.
Overdose are going to Egypt to make a statement. With the experience of some key players in the roster like Sandrine Ayangma who was able to find her steps with two point jumpers in the paint against UDLA scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 05 assists, having a lion share of the game. Also, she could withstand the tumor to hold back CNSS of Congo so as to maintain a limited point gap scoring 12 points. The 37-years old shooting guard represented team Cameroon in two FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, 2015 and 2019 respectively, and has a remarkable experience in the FIBA Women’s African Champion’s Cup.
To throw more light on experience, Overdose Up Station has a remarkable roster with youngsters that have continental experience in basketball like Ekah Sema, bronze medalist in the 2021 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Yaoundé, with team Cameroon and silver medalist in the recent Francophonie games. Audrey Batchaya and Nkwetchou Paule-Ingride, silver medalists at the last Francophonie games organised in RD Congo with team Cameroon U25.
Coming up, is the 21 years old shooting guard Ongmabock La Grace, who became the cornerstone in the game opposing CNSS of Congo despite the defeat she dropped 19 points 7 rebounds and 3 assists to reduce the score margin permitting her team to qualify by goal difference.
‘’I plan to start the competition with a lot of determination, and my personal objective is to help my team make the podium.’’ Said Ongmabock La Grace
These players manifest a huge appetite for victory game after game.
Dassi Roger head coach for overdose up station is confident about going to Cairo to do what they do best:
‘’The AWBL is just a change of appellation which is good. We are going to Egypt to play the best of our basketball, also to show the continent the best of Cameroon women basketball, to tell the world that Africans can play basketball.’’
Overdose Up Station will be going to Cairo to compete for the first time in a continental tournament after failing to participate in last year’s FIBA Women’s African Champion’s Cup Maputo 2022 due to financial difficulties. They will be going as the same team to win games.
