The game began unfavourably for Nigeria, as Australia quickly established a 6-0 lead, which expanded to 13-5. However, Nigeria soon began to find their rhythm. By leveraging their physical prowess, they forced Australia into turnovers, leading to fast-break opportunities and a stronger presence on the boards. The first quarter concluded with Nigeria clawing their way back, setting the stage for a competitive game.
In the second quarter, Nigeria asserted their dominance. It capitalised on its physicality to disrupt Australia's offence, leading to multiple turnovers. Nigeria's defence intensified, and its offensive efforts were rewarded with consistent scoring.
