In recent months, Ghanaian basketball headlines have been dominated by the Accra Basketball League champions, the Spintex Knights, and their recent Road To BAL run, which saw them become the first Ghanian club to reach the Elite 16. Adding to the excitement, power forward Ben Bentil has been turning heads in Italy's Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), delivering some of the best performances of his nearly 10-year professional career with Napoli Basket.
However, in the last 24 hours, another Ghanaian star has grabbed the limelight. Former NBA player Amida Brimah, known for his shot-blocking prowess during his time with the UConn Huskies and later the Indiana Pacers, has secured a high-profile move to Spanish and Euroleague basketball powerhouse Valencia.
The move to the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula comes following the completion of Amida Brimah's two-month temporary contract with fellow Liga Endesa (ACB) outfit BAXI Manresa. During his brief tenure, the center averaged 3.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and an impressive 1.5 blocks per game, ranking him as the second-best shot-blocker in the Liga Endesa. Remarkably, these stats were achieved in just over 12 minutes of court time per game across eight Liga Endesa games. In addition, Brimah posted averages of 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the Basketball Champions League.
Although he went undrafted in 2017, Brimah, born in Accra on 11 February 1994, has built a career featuring multiple stints in the NBA, G-League and with some of the most respected clubs in Europe. In the Association, he has played for teams including the Austin Spurs, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Indiana Pacers, Grand Rapids Gold, and most recently, the Santa Cruz Warriors during the last season. In Europe, the big has donned the jerseys of Partizan, Oostende, JL Bourg and recently Napoli.
