Game Report: Cape Verde Secures Third Win to Move One Step Closer to 2025 AfroBasket Qualification

In a highly anticipated Game Day 3 showdown, Nigeria clashed with Cape Verde in an exciting game that captivated fans until the final buzzer. Nigeria were eager to bounce back after the recent defeats against Libya and Uganda. Meanwhile, Cape Verde sought a third victory to bolster their prospects of securing a spot in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket tournament.

First Half

The game started with both teams displaying strong defensive performances, making it difficult for either side to establish a comfortable lead. Nigeria's offensive firepower, led by their star player Mike Nuga, helped them gain an early advantage wining the first quarter 16-24. However, Cape Verde responded with tenacious defence and accurate shooting to keep the game close. The first half ended with the Blue Sharks holding the lead by 6, 39-33.

Second Half

The second half saw a shift in momentum as the D’Tigers came out strong with fast-break opportunities and took the lead by 7 points. Nigeria, determined not to let the game slip away, ramped up their defensive intensity.

This wasn’t enough to contain the Blue Sharks, who were out for victory. They regained control of the game, shattering the redemption dream for the D’Tigers. Cape Verde mounted a comeback and secured the last group B game 78-62 victory for Cape Verde.

Key Players

- Patrick Lima (CPV): Led the performance for the Bluesharks with 15 points and and 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

- Chuckwuemeka Eke (NGR): Impressed with his all-around performance, contributing 31 points and  9 rebounds, energizing his team with his hustle and determination. Yet this was not sufficient to stop the Blue sharks.
