FIBA Intercontinental Cup - Singapore 2024

FIBA Africa Zone 6 Weekly Review: 29/07/024

ANGOLA

The 2024 BAL champions, Petro de Luanda, will be competing in this year's FIBA Intercontinental Cup scheduled for Singapore in September. The Intercontinental Cup is a competition regrouping continental champions that compete against each other for the “world champion” crown. Petro is in pool B and will be playing against Al Riaydi Club Beirut from Lebanon, victors of the 2024 Asian Basketball Champions League and 2024 European champions Fundación Unicaja Baloncesto from Malaga, Spain.

In Pool A, NBA G-League United from the United States, 2024 BCLA champions Quimsa from Argentina, and Tasmania Jack Jumpers from Australia will tussle for supremacy.

The Angolan team is keen on thrilling on the global stage and portraying a great image of African basketball that reflects the tremendous growth the game has witnessed on the continent lately. However, the Angolan heavyweights have shuffled their deck and are without African legend Carlos Morais and Jone Pedro. Having competed at the top level for decades, the Angolans are accustomed to adversity and are hoping to finally stamp their authority on the global scene when they begin competing in the 2024 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
