SENEGAL

AS Douanes’s quest for a third consecutive league title and a 12th league crown have been dashed to the winds after they were knocked out of the Play-offs of Senegal NM1 by Dakar University Club DUC 66-58.

As Douanes who represented Senegal in the last two editions of the Basket Africa League (BAL) will watch the Playoff final from the stands as DUC will take on AS Ville Dakar. However, AS Douanes still has a shot at a trophy as they target the Cup of Senegal. They had their pound of flesh during the first leg of the semis of Cup of Senegal, overpowering DUC59-36. A win in the second leg will see them sail through to the competition's final.

Still in Senegal, experienced American coach Otis Hughley is settling into his new position as head coach of Senegal’s Women’s basketball team following his recent appointment.

A two-time FIBA Women’s AfroBasket winner with Nigeria in 2019 and 2021, Hughley replaces Spaniard Alberto Antuna Leal, who was thanked recently by the Senegalese Federation. Antonio Leal was appointed coach of the Senegalese national team on November 8, 2023, to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
