Inter Clube de Luanda successfully started their AWBL campaign, beating Kenya's Equity Bank Hawks 80-55.
With stars including former African Women's Champions Cup MVPs Italee Lucas and Ingvild Mucauro, Inter Clube took leads of 10-3 and 17-5 in the first part of the quarter, but the Kenyan women fought back to 27-19 at the end of the first quarter.
A run of 18 points for Angola's Inter Clube in the first 5 minutes of the second quarter against Kenya's Equity Bank Hawks proved detrimental to the latter. The 5 minutes without a basket in the second quarter didn't help Benson Oluoch's players, who could never recover from this slump.
Oluoch admitted after the defeat: "The statistics don't lie, we gave the opposition 33 points on our 39 turnovers and lost by 25 points, which shows that we need to manage the ball better and be patient on offence".
Despite the victory, Elisa Pires believes her players made many mistakes.
"The aim was to win, but that's not how we want to play. We made many mistakes that we need to correct," she declared.
