The game was tightly contested from tip-off, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the match. Cameroon, determined to make history, came into the game with a sense of urgency and passion that was evident in every play. Angola, known for their defensive discipline and tactical prowess, put up a fierce fight, keeping the score close and the pressure high. At the end of the first quarter Cameroon was leading by 8 points. In the second quarter, Angola came up strong, forcing turnovers and pushing Cameroon to commit unnecessary fouls which gave them a two point lead at half-time. In the second half of the game it was a scoring contest for both teams as they stepped up their game increasing their tactical play.
Angola, to their credit, fought valiantly until the very end. They put together a final push in the last quarter, cutting down Cameroon’s lead and tying the game in the closing seconds. However, the Cameroonian defense held firm, denying Angola the opportunity to steal the game in the final possession with 2 point play for an easy lay up for Abada Mvogo.
A standout performer for Cameroon was Emedie Damaris, who once again showcased her brilliance on both ends of the court. Damaris recorded yet another double-double, finishing with 15 points and an impressive 19 rebounds. Her ability to control the boards was critical in keeping Cameroon competitive, especially in moments when Angola looked to pull away. Whether it was through her tenacity in the paint or her calm under pressure, Damaris was the heart and soul of the team.
Not to be outdone, Kipo Gisel played a crucial role in the victory, contributing 12 points and 8 rebounds. Her timely scoring and aggressive rebounding helped Cameroon maintain their lead during critical stretches. Gisel’s impact on both ends of the floor, especially in securing key defensive rebounds in the final moments, proved to be crucial in a game that could have gone either way.
As the final buzzer sounded, the Cameroonian bench erupted in celebration, marking a moment of historic triumph for the nation’s basketball program. This victory not only secures Cameroon’s semi-final spot in the AfroBasket tournament but also solidifies their status as one of Africa’s emerging basketball powerhouses.
The girls started the game with a lot of confidence but half way down, they lost concentration. So the bench had to step in.
Coach Lonteu Majolie stated.
For the Cameroonian players, this win symbolizes the culmination of hard work, dedication, and belief in their ability to compete with the best teams on the continent. The team will now set its sights on making a deep run in the AfroBasket tournament, buoyed by the confidence gained from this exhilarating victory.
