The last encounter between the two teams took place on April 20th, 2024, during game day 2, where Cairo's Sporting emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle that extended into the final quarter. Towards the end of the clash, Libyan-based Al Ahly Ly players were drained as the game progressed due to a lack of substitutions.

Even with a concurrent football fixture featuring Al Ahly versus TP Mazembe from the DRC in the CAF Champions League, the Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex was brimming with fans, a testament to the significance of the match.

The game kicked off with sporting claiming an early lead in the first quarter, delighting fans with a four-point advantage (25-21). The second period was a rollercoaster ride, with the score tied at 28-28, 36-36, and 40-40, featuring five ties before halftime was signalled with a score of 45-42 in favour of the Benghazi-based outfit.

The third quarter mirrored the intensity of the first two, marked by ties at 48-48 and 52-52, with neither team gaining a significant advantage. However, Al Ahly Sporting managed to edge ahead, utilising second chances to secure a narrow lead of six points at 69-63 by the end of the quarter.

A technical foul by Leal Accueil, who had contributed 26 points thus far, allowed Sporting to extend their lead to twelve points (74-86) with just two minutes remaining. As the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard displayed a tally of 87-76, with Al Ahly Sporting emerging victorious once again over their Libyan rivals.
